Watch this short film of Dr Fatima Zainudin (Programme Leader for Accounting and Finance) for a welcome to your programme and tips on what you can do over the summer to prepare. We’ve also provided some quick activities below to get you started…
What you can do to prepare for your programme…
1) Recommended reading
We want you to enjoy your summer! Don’t worry too much about reading textbooks for your course as there will be plenty of time for that when you arrive. Reading good quality business and accounting news regularly is a good way to adjust to reading at university level. We recommend The Financial Times, The Economist, and the business sections of the major broadsheet newspapers (Times, Guardian, Independent, Telegraph).
2) Accounting and Finance terminology
Learning some basic accounting terminology will give you a head start when you arrive at university and start reading for your courses. This online glossary lists the key terminology for accounting and finance.
3) Find out about professional bodies
It’s never too early for professional development! Review the websites for professional accounting organisations or follow them on social media. Some offer students support, guidance or membership and this is a good way to stay in touch with professional developments throughout your course.
