“I don’t have anything to say.” This is not true.
At its most basic, blogs can help you develop online presence and become more confident. Think about something that genuinely interests you. You may think that whatever topic you would like to write about, had been already written. Your posts don’t need to be earth-shattering to be read and shared. Don’t be put off by the blogging industry being filtered already, your aim is not to became another top blogger, it’s to showcase your passion, achievements and discuss topics of your interest. It’s a great way to develop your writing and creative skills. By scheduling posts, you are developing your management skills (important skill you can talk about during interviews). A consistent upload schedule helps your readers to know when to expect a new piece of written content from you.
Why should I write a blog?
- It shows that you are proactive
- It will improve you writing and creative skills
- It will be a great addition to your CV
- It will help to build a network
How can I get involved?
AOB is a place where students can share their ideas and achievements. We want this blog to be written mostly by students and you’re invited to take part in it.
If you want to share your ideas, your recent experience that will inspire others or you want to promote a blog of your own, AOB is a right place to do so. How to do it? Simply fill out the contact form on the website or send an email directly to SBSEDO@soton.ac.uk
Here are some ideas to help you with your first blog post:
- Collect articles, websites or studies you like and write a brief summary or highlight what you particularly like about them.
- What would have helped you in your studies?
- Write about your summer, placement or any work experience you have. How did you get the role, what was the most interesting and challenging about it. Let’s help other students to be successful.
- Write negative opinion. It’s okay to have a different view on different topics. Get angry and explain why the person is wrong and what frustrates you about it.
